Backend Software Engineer at ZeroNorth

As a passionate Software Engineer, you'll be at the heart of our Bunker business area working within the data team. This isn't just another backend role; it's a high-impact mission to be a key force in transforming a core, revenue-generating application. You will be at the heart of a pivotal moment for our business, executing a critical technical vision.

You won't just be maintaining existing systems – you'll be on the front lines, extending and enhancing our live, globally impactful web applications that empower users worldwide to make critical decisions for a sustainable future.

Key responsibilities:

• Be a primary driver in analysing the existing solution and contributing to the architecture of our next-generation solution.

• Collaborate closely with product owners and the team lead to not only rebuild existing functionality but also to design and implement the new features that will unlock market expansion.

• You will be a key member of the team responsible for its ongoing maintenance, performance, and continued growth, taking ownership of the components you build.

• Actively leverage and champion the use of generative AI to assist in code translation, logic mapping, and accelerating the refactoring process.

Your profile:

• You have a minimum of six years of software engineering experience, with a track record of improving complex, existing codebases.
• You are proficient in Python, as it's a core part of our existing technology stack (experience with Go or .Net is a plus).
• You have solid experience with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Timestream) and ORMs.
• You are comfortable with cloud infrastructure and pipelines (e.g., YAML, Terraform, GitHub Actions, AWS).
• You have a strong commitment to quality and believe in writing and maintaining comprehensive automated tests (e.g., unit, component, integration) to ensure software robustness.
• You are genuinely excited by the prospect of improving what's already there, understanding that true innovation often means good craftsmanship, not just green-field development.
• You are curious and pragmatic about using new tools, and the idea of using generative AI to solve real-world engineering problems excites you.
• You have a solid foundation in engineering, computer science, or a related field, and a strong hunger to learn, experiment with new technology, and share your brilliance with the team.
