The role
We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer, preferably with experience in the Maritime sector, to complement our Vessel Performance Optimization team in augmenting and scaling the ZeroNorth Cloud platform for High Frequency Data.

As Senior Software Engineer you will be responsible for leveraging microservice-based development patterns, in designing and implementing components for orchestrating data flows, and consolidating analytics results for visualization.

You will:

• Design, implement, test, and deliver scalable, containerized services, primarily in a Java - Spring Boot environment, for Cloud-based applications

• Augment, improve and further develop existing services to include high-frequency data acquisition, in close collaboration with the Platform Engineering team

• Work with the Product, Data Analysis and DevOps teams for defining requirements and specifications, in an agile environment

• Contribute to platform architecture and provide expert input regarding tools and technologies

• Perform code reviews, applying software design principles, coding standards and best practices

Who are you?
Your extensive knowhow and strong programming skills in Java and object-oriented design concepts are complemented by more than 5 years of hands-on experience in Cloud-based software development. At a minimum you have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent

• Hands-on experience with the Spring framework and Maven, as well as Docker and Kubernetes

• In-depth understanding of modern API design and RESTful principles

• Familiarity with distributed version control systems such as Git, and platforms such as GitHub and Bitbucket

We consider it a strong asset if you:

• Are familiar with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Bitbucket pipelines

• Have experience with relational (RDBMS), non-relational (NoSQL) and time-series

  databases such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and Timescale, as well as Data store, search

  and analytics platforms such as ElasticSearch

• Have exposure to Geospatial data management and visualisation tools such as

  OpenGIS, OpenLayers, Geoserver etc.

• Are familiar with Apache Spark and Kafka

Fluency in written and spoken English is required and some travel is expected.
