The role
We are currently looking for a senior Data Engineer, preferably with experience in the Maritime sector, to complement our Vessel Performance Optimization team in developing and scaling the ZeroNorth DataOps infrastructure for High Frequency Data.

In this role you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining scalable, resilient, data ingestion infrastructure, and offer expert input into evolving and optimizing the Data Architecture, accommodating High Frequency data sources in the field and a variety of third- party systems, with emphasis on security, speed, cost and scalability.

You will

• Design, maintain and fine-tune stream-based data ingestion pipelines, both from vessel assets and from third-party sources such as ERP, PMS and Bunkering software, AIS, weather and sea-state data providers, etc.

• Collaborate closely with the Platform Engineering team for integrating high-speed data with noon-report and other vessel operational information into a common ELT (Datalake) data warehouse

• Develop robust monitoring, alerting and filtering mechanisms ensuring data quality, veracity and synchronisation

• Work with the Product, Data Analysis and DevOps teams for defining requirements and specifications, in an agile environment

• Perform code reviews, applying software design principles, coding standards and best practices

Who are you?
Your extensive knowhow and strong engineering skills in Data Infrastructure systems are complemented by more than 5 years of hands-on experience in designing and developing Cloud- based data processing software.

At a minimum you have

• a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent

• Strong knowledge of Data warehousing systems and Data Modelling, as well as hands- on experience with relational (RDBMS), non-relational (NoSQL) and time-series databases such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and Timescale

• Strong hands-on skills in software engineering tools and languages (Python, Scala, Java etc.)

• Experience with Big Data Frameworks and Data Streaming (Apache Spark, Kafka, Spark Streaming etc.)

• Familiarity with distributed version control systems such as Git, and platforms such as GitHub and Bitbucket

  We consider it a strong asset if you

• Have hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes and containerization concepts and frameworks

• Are familiar with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Bitbucket pipelines

• Have experience with Prometheus, Grafana or similar monitoring solutions

Fluency in written and spoken English is required and some travel is expected
